Intravenous (IV) nutrient therapy is one of the most powerful non-conventional therapies available. There are a number of situations where IV therapy might be the therapy of choice for a patient. These include:
Severe digestive problems limit digestion and absorption of nutrients taken by mouth
Acute illness that can resolve more quickly with strong immune stimulation
Depletion of basic nutrients and electrolytes after extreme physical exertion (including before/after sporting events)
Recovery from surgery or other physical trauma
Undernutrition and even malnutrition in elderly patients who can greatly benefit from IV nutrients
Patients in these and other situations can often respond quickly and quite dramatically to infusion of appropriate vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other nutrients. Dr. Nigh has been through extensive training in the use of nutritional IVs, and now has over a decade of experience formulating and prescribing several different IV "recipes" for patients. Here are some of the most common types of IVs in use at Immersion Health.
This is a basic vitamin and mineral formula that is commonly used for immune boosting around colds and flu. It can also be great for patients with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. These are relatively quick IVs that can be done as often as once daily during acute illness or times of high stress.
Similar to the Myer’s drip, this formula contains a broader range of nutrients and at higher doses. Commonly used with elderly patients and those recovering from severe illnesses. We often add amino acids to this formula to support protein levels in severely depleted patients. This relatively basic formula has brought about significant improvement in both physical and cognitive function in several elderly patients we've used it with.
Expanded Vitamin/mineral Drip
Most commonly used with our cancer patients, this formula contains all the nutrients of the vitamin/mineral drip, but higher doses of some key anti-cancer nutrients such as germanium and vitamin C. It also contains DMSO to facilitate cell uptake as well as distribution into the bones and brain.
Hydrogen Peroxide Drip
Hydrogen peroxide IV drips powerfully stimulate the activity of the immune cells. In addition, peroxide breaks down into water and oxygen in the blood. This excess oxygen can then be used as an oxygenating therapy with cancer patients and others with reduced oxygen levels, including those with respiratory disease, anemia and diabetics with reduced blood flow in their hands and feet. Peroxide has a unique ability to mobilize mucus, especially in the lungs. Respiratory diseases such as asthma, bronchitis and emphysema are among the most responsive to these IVs.
High Dose Vitamin C Drip
Some cancers and infectious diseases respond well to high dose vitamin C therapy. This involves an escalating dose of vitamin C, typically starting around 20g and climbing as high as 80g per drip. In order to assure the patient's safety it is essential to run a test called Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase (G6PD) prior to using more than 20g of vitamin C in a drip.
Dichloroacetate Drip (DCA)
DCA is a medication, not a natural substance. However, it has a very unique and powerful action against malignant cells. Specifically, it decreases lactic acid production in cancer cells by forcing them to utilize oxygen for energy production. DCA IVs are used in conjunction with other types of anti-cancer IVs, as well as with oral DCA dosing.
Alpha Lipoic Acid Drip (ALA)
This unique water- and fat-soluble antioxidant has an action similar to DCA against cancer cells. In addition it can be extremely beneficial for patients with hepatitis, diabetes and other chronic diseases. ALA improves blood sugar control in diabetics, can help treat neuropathies in diabetics and cancer patients, it it will even help to bind and eliminate heavy metals from the body!
The organic form of germanium is called germanium sesquioxide. This means that each germanium atom has 7 associated oxygen atoms. Another important attribute of organic germanium is that it stimulates production of interferon, a substance that strongly stimulates immune cells into activity, including the very important Natural Killer cells that fight cancer. We use high doses of germanium, usually in conjunction with hydrogen peroxide drips, in order to stimulate immunity and to deliver excess oxygen in cancer patients. Germanium can also be an excellent therapy for chronic fatigue and autoimmune diseases.
High Dose Bicarbonate Drip
This drip is specifically used with cancer patients, and takes advantage of the fact that cancer cells have increased bicarbonate uptake. Studies have shown that bicarbonate can alkalinize the cancer environment, slowing growth and reducing the risk of spread.
Glutathione is a master detoxifying molecule and powerful antioxidant. Glutathione pushes are used with all types of neurological diseases. It can also facilitate removal of heavy metals, toxic chemicals and other metabolic wastes.
Iscador is an extract of the mistletoe plant. There are over 100 studies published on its use as a cancer therapy in the European medical literature. At Immersion Health we use Iscador both as subcutaneous injection and dripped as an IV to kill cancer cells, stimulate anticancer immunity and generally enhance the vitality of patients with cancer and other diseases.
These are some of the drips that we utilize at Immersion Health. Many of these contain varying amounts of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). DMSO has the unique property of passing quickly and easily through the skin and cell membranes. Studies have shown that within 60 minutes of applying DMSO to your skin it can be found in your bones! Not only does it pass through skin and cell walls, but it will carry with it substances that get mixed with it.
We put DMSO in many drips to carry everything from vitamins to peroxide to bicarbonate deep into the cells of the body. With cancer patients, it means delivering these substances into the malignant cells. This is especially important when cancers are in the bones, prostate or brain, three areas that are often difficult to reach.
IV therapy is available to all patients of Immersion Health. Simply call 503-719-4806 for information or scheduling.
